PHOTO GALLERY DON KING VISITS TROOPS AROUND THE WORLD
Famed boxing promotor Don King has pledged to raise $150,000 for the completion of a monument in front of division headquarters.
Billy Colwell, monument designer, was presented with a $25,000 check as the first installment of the donation.
"(These soldiers) are the vanguard of our nation, and I am honored to be able to help them." King said June 17th. "These men and women have risked their lives on foreign soil for our freedom, and I'm pleased to do whatever I can."
King's visit to Fort Campbell was to support 101st soldiers during the Boxing Smoking event as part of the Week of the Eagles celebration. He was inspired to make the donation after attending a memorial service where the monument was unveiled.
The black, granite memorial is etched with drawings that depict the division's history in World War II, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, as well as the present and future of their division.
