PALACIOS STOPS SOTO TO CAPTURE WBC 105
Source: Don King ProductionsNicaragua's hard-punching Juan "El Exterminador" Palacios, stopped Puerto Rico's Omar "El Pastor" Soto at 1:16 of the tenth round to win the WBC Interim Strawweight Championship last night in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The event was co-promoted by Don King Productions and Universal Promotions in the Juan Pachin Vicens Auditorium. Palacios , from Managua, Nicaragua, is just 27-years old and boosted his record to 24-2 (19 KOs). The talented new champion is the former WBC Latino Champion and is promoted by Don King Productions. The 25-year old Soto, lives in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and his record slips to 13-3-1 (6 KOs). Soto, the former WBA Fedecentro and WBC USNBC titleholder, was down twice in the seventh and twice in the tenth, and showed a lot of heart against the tough Palacios. Other notable matches on the show saw undefeated heavyweight prospect Kertson Manswell, 16-0 (13 KOs) win a split decision over tough journeyman Earl Ladson, 14-19-1 (7 KOs) in eight rounds. Undefeated Puerto Rican Caesar "Junito" Seda goes to 14,0 (10 KOs) by halting veteran Jose Garcia Bernal, 27-13-1 (18 KOs) in the seventh stanza. Exciting Nicaraguan Rene "Chirizo" Gonzalez, 20-1-1 (15 KOs), kayoed Puerto Rico's Alberto DeJesus Trinidad in the second.
